William WATTS 2

  • Marriage (1): Joan KNOTT
  • Marriage (2): Avys WATTS Est 1550 1
  • Died: About 1562, Of, Sandhurst, Kent 2

bullet  Notes:

The Watts family of Sandhurst was probably related to the Watts family of the nearby village of Benenden, although the family in Sandhurst were farmers rather than clothiers. William's will shows that he was a prosperous farmer, and was able to leave land and property to his three eldest sons. He is known to have married twice. He had six children with his first wife Joan Knott, three daughters and three sons. Their three daughters were Joan (identified in the will of William Watts of Benenden), Anne (who probably married Thomas Brooke), and Martha. Their three sons were John (qv); William who married and had five children in Sandhurst; and Herbert who had 12 children from his two marriages, also in Sandhurst.

William snr next married Alice Watts (qv), who was probably Avys Watts, the sister of William Watts of Benenden (the two William Watts were described as brothers ie brothers-in-law.) William and Alice had three sons Thomas, Edmond and Robert, who were all less than 14 years old when William wrote his will in 1562, but none are mentioned in their uncle William's will written in 1567, so perhaps they had all died by then.
