William WATTS
(-1562) |
William WATTS 2
Notes: The Watts family of Sandhurst was probably related to the Watts family of the nearby village of Benenden, although the family in Sandhurst were farmers rather than clothiers. William's will shows that he was a prosperous farmer, and was able to leave land and property to his three eldest sons. He is known to have married twice. He had six children with his first wife Joan Knott, three daughters and three sons. Their three daughters were Joan (identified in the will of William Watts of Benenden), Anne (who probably married Thomas Brooke), and Martha. Their three sons were John (qv); William who married and had five children in Sandhurst; and Herbert who had 12 children from his two marriages, also in Sandhurst. William married Joan KNOTT, daughter of John KNOTT and Agnes. William next married Avys WATTS, daughter of John WATTS and Joan LUCAS, about 1550.1 (Avys WATTS was buried on 16 Jun 1567 in St George, Benenden, Kent 3.) |
