bullet  Notes:

Samuel was one of nine children born to Isaac Taylor and his wife Martha in Little Bentley. He was a farm labourer, and lived on The Green in Great Bentley. He and his wife Martha Keeble (qv) had 11 children (seven sons and four daughters), all born in Great Bentley.

Their eldest son Samuel (who was baptised as John) was a farm labourer in Great Bentley: his wife Elizabeth Downes became a laundress after he died aged 44. Their next son William was a gardener in Great Bentley: he had 13 children with his wife Maria Newman. Their eldest daughter Sarah Ann has not been traced after the 1851 Census when she was a domestic servant for the Vicar of White Notley. Their next son James died in infancy. Their next son George worked as a groom in Great Bentley, including the Inn on Aingers Green: he married twice and had eight children. Their next two daughters were Susannah, who has not been traced after her late baptism in 1843, and Ann (qv).

Samuel and Martha then had two pairs of twins: Joseph and John, and Maria and James. Joseph was a seaman based in Brightlingsea, and John was a farm labourer in Great Bentley: both married and neither had children, although John and his wife helped to bring up several of his nephews. Maria married Joseph Bailey, a farm labourer in St Osyth; and James (who was baptised as Samuel) was a farm labourer in Great Bentley, where he married and had two children.
