Reader WATTS 4
Notes: Reader was the younger son. He inherited property in Benenden and elsewhere including the quitrents of the Benenden Manor from his older brother Edmond and cousins in Kent. He was living in the parish of St Mary Aldermary for his second marriage to Katherine Wightman in 1725, and was still living there (in Watling St) when he died 15 years later. They had two children: Rebecca (qv) who married Robert Wilkinson (qv) and Reader who was apprenticed to his maternal uncle Shardlow Wightman (a brewer) in 1747. The apprenticeship record describes Reader Watts snr as a tobacconist, although he described himself as 'Citizen and Embroiderer of London' in his will. Reader jnr inherited most of his father's property, and had six children with his wife Mary Wainwright, who was from Holborn in London. Reader snr and his wife Katherine were both buried in Bunhill Fields. Reader married Hanah RIDGE on 16 Apr 1716 in St Mary the Virgin, Glynde, Sussex.1 Reader next married Katherine WIGHTMAN, daughter of John WIGHTMAN and Sarah SHARDLOW, on 3 Aug 1725 in St Thomas Apostle, Southwark, Surrey.2 3 (Katherine WIGHTMAN was born on 1 Aug 1694 in St Martin Pomeroy, London,7 died in St Pancras, Middlesex 8 and was buried on 17 Dec 1754 in Bunhill Fields Burial Ground, City Rd, Middlesex 8.) |
