The history of the Turquand family of Poitou in France was published by William Grellier in London in 1881, based on an account written by Leonard Turquand (1747-1814), which was in turn based on details provided by his father Paul Turquand (1715-1800).
According to this history Paul Turquand of Chatellerault was made a Privy Councillor in Paris after the death of his father Paul around 1630, and built up extensive estates near Poitiers and Chatellerault. He married Mary Guiland of Poitiers in 1660, and retired to Chatellerault after she died around 1684. Paul and Mary are thought to have had one son Paul (qv), and three daughters.
