John OSMOND ²

  Notes:

John's origin is not known, although he married and was buried in Church Knowle, a parish in the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset. William Osmond of Bradell (probably Bradle Farm in the Corfe Valley) was assessed for goods in the 1525 Tudor Subsidy Roll, and may have been an ancestor.

John married Joan Gover (qv) in 1584; their eight children were all baptised in Church Knowle, and five of them are known to have married. Their son William married in Church Knowle, but his wife was not named in the Register. Their next son was Roger (qv). Their eldest daughter Susan married Richard Stepine in Steeple, the parish to the west of Church Knowle. Their younger daughter Honor also married in Steeple, to Richard Francke. Their youngest son Edward is known from his will to have been a shepherd at Hurpstone, a farm about 1/3 mile to the west of Bradle Farm which he left to his daughter Elizabeth: his wife was named Margaret but the marriage has not been found in the Parish Registers.
